The Opening Ceremonies are a Games tradition that features the Clans March Past and National Anthems, and culminates with the famous "Let the Games begin" announcement. The Closing Ceremonies showcase the very best of Scottish entertainment in a packed schedule which ends with the spectacular march-off of the Massed Bands featuring hundreds of pipers and drummers playing and marching in unison.
Established in 2004, the Wasatch & District Pipe Band is a competitive and performing Grade 2 ensemble based in Bountiful, Utah. Wearing the distinctive MacTavish tartan, the band performs throughout Utah and competes across the Western United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom — including at the prestigious World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.
The band is led by Pipe Major Ross Morrill, Pipe Sergeant Tyler Johnson, and Drum Sergeant Michael Postma
The St. Thomas Alumni Pipe Band of Texas was founded by Lars Sloane in 1988 as the Hamilton Pipe Band. In 2019, at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, the St. Thomas Alumni Pipe Band was crowned Grade 2 champions and subsequently promoted to Grade 1.
Today, the St. Thomas Alumni Pipe Band competes and performs worldwide, and is led by Pipe Major Jamie Gattinger, Pipe Sergeant Mike Cusack, and Drum Sergeant Graham Brown.
